Des Voeux Botanic Dye Trousers Level 2 - Gall Indigo
The Des Voeux Trousers feature an elongated drop crotch, along with a straight and slightly tapered cut, resulting in a refined and streamlined silhouette. Adding to the robust design, Cobrax snap buttons were incorporated to enhance the modern and utilitarian appeal.
The deep navy hue is achieved through a meticulous multi-step dyeing process. It begins with an immersion in slightly rested indigo dye, which sets the initial blue foundation. Then, Chinese Gall infused with mineral ions is used as a mordant in subsequent rounds of dyeing. Chinese Gall, refers to the gall nuts that form on Chinese sumac trees (Rhus Chinensis) in response to insect infestations. These gall nuts have been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine, ink-making, and textile dyeing. This intricate technique, involving careful oxidation and thorough rinsing between each application, gradually builds the desired rustic yet vibrant navy colour throughout the textile.
